    Hi,

A friend of mine's wife is leaving work as her hours have changed that she now has to work late evenings and with them having small children it's not feasible for both of them to keep working, she has asked her employer for retain her existing hours but they aren't willing to do that.

She doesn't think she's entitlted to any benefits, she will be looking for a new job, can anyone advise the best thing for her to do to get something or if she's entitled to anything? She has been in full time employment for other 10 years.

I think she may be entitled to benefit as for all intents and purpose she is being made redundant from her current job and being offered a new job.
I would work on this basis as if she is made redundant and in this case she be entitled to job-seekers allowance.

Thanks, that makes sense I guess, how would she go about claiming that?

Social Welfare don't make allowances for childcare arrangements, though they may waive the 9 week disqualification from claiming for leaving a job once she explains why she had to leave her current job. She will be entitled to claim JSB once she is actively seeking for full time work.
