I've a 2010 525d showing a "oil level too high, have this checked" message.
Sent car to garage but message still showing. Engine can be dipped and oil is correct. Would anyone of had same issue and what would fix it?

Similar issue with my 13 520d, would come up as needing a litre every so often even though the dipstick was showing on the full mark. Got the mechanic to take a look and he removed and cleaned the level sensor in the sump while servicing it. Error hasn’t appeared since.

Could be one of a few things, as said the oil level sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced or if you do a lot of short trips then possibly the DPF is not finishing it's cycle then any unburnt fuel is finding it's way into the oil sump.

Also the message will not go away by itself, the fault will need to be cleared by someone with BMW compatible diagnostic software after the issue is fixed.
