    Driving behind a new Toyota - Yaris I think.
    The brake lights seem to be a set of LEDs. How are they replaced if they fail ?

    I still love my Corolla where you can replace a bulb in two minutes flat.

    New unit would be needed.

    Any new Yaris have standard bulbs at the moment but the hybrid may well be different.

    Previous models have had bulbs or led.

    You are right. Behind it again this morning - it is a hybrid.
    Noticed two other Yaris non-hybrids - they have conventional bulbs.

    Out of curiosity what would a replacement LED brake light unit cost ?
    Do they have a high reliability ?

    It would be the complete fitting usually.

    If they get wet inside they are goosed.

    They tend to have a very long life and you will see many older cars with them fitted still working away.

    You will see however individual LED in some of the older models and different manufacturers where say one or two may have failed and the rest ok.

    Local mechanic was telling me he had a Seat in a few weeks back doing a pre-NCT. He noticed that one of the LEDs in the headlights was out. He checked with Seat and a full unit was needed at £800 + VAT. Owner left it to try and find another solution. It's crazy that one failed LED requires that full unit to be replaced at that cost. Cars will be written off for failed bulbs in the future.
