Lads I just get avg 8-9 km per liter of gas on my petrol Hyundai accent automatic...what can I do to improve it or is it a lost cause ?

    Car has been serviced regularly...

That’s just 25mpg. Are you mainly doing city driving ?

Is it 8 or 9 l/100km you are getting from the cars display? Otherwise that’s a really poor efficiency you are getting

No I calculate it...generally full tank of 40 litres gives me 390-400 kms in city driving..

Stop start driving in the city that's about the best you will do.

Thanks...is it generally the norm on an automatic ? It's a 07 model

A hybrid would work better in that the low speed stop start would be done by the battery rather than petrol engine. A manual wouldn't be much better, it's the stopping and starting that's killing the mpg.

    Just an aside...

I was getting 450 roughly on a full tank in the city. I'm now in the country and have a 40 km drive before I need to stop the car in work. I'm now getting 800 on a full tank. It's a petrol engine.

So OP, you're not doing too badly.

Hybrid is your man,I regret trading mine in last year and am trying to bag a new one, went from 65mpg honda insight,to 45 in an automatic swift, and I drive easy, swift is gorgeous, keyless, cruise, etc ,rs body kit but if happily take a hybrid every day all day

Posts like this make me feel better about getting 28mpg out of my a5 2l turbo petrol.

    That's inconsistent.
390-400km on 40 litres of fuel is between 9.75 and 10 km per litre (not 8-9 like you say).
Better to use l/100km, so assuming your 390-400 km per 40 litres tank, that gives between 10 and 10.26 l/100km.

If it's only city driving in regular automatic, IMO it's what i'd expect.
My wife's 05 CRV automatic in city driving used to do about 11-12 l/100km.
Now converted to LPG does about 13-13.5 l/100km of LPG.
