Noisy Shower

Hi have a Triton T90 XR shower over my bath, this was in place in the house when we bought it. It made some noise when we were using it however as of today this started making a much louder high pitched whine.

I have disconnected the shower head and hose, cleaned both out with vinegar, cleaned runner seals, they are in good condition as i change head and hose when we got the house, however shower is still alot more noisy that before. (heats well enough but water pressure is pretty bad coming from head)

From what i can tell (please correct me if i am wrong) this shower model is a low pressure unit fed from the header tank (has big label on front saying do not connect to mains).

I am not sure how old this is so my questions are the following if anyone can help:

    1. If this unit serviceable due to age & am i likely to get parts ?
    2. Should i just straight up replace this and if so which model shower is suitable ?
    3. Is this something i can self install safely or do i need a plumber or electrician or both ?

Appreciate any speedy advice on this as i don't feel confident using shower with current behavior. Fear of possible electric issues.

Interested in this as parents have exact same issue with shower.. still working away but sounds dreadful.. is there a safety risk? Plumber looked at it and didn't find an issue

Noisy motor = bearings are worn.

A new motor for a triton t90xr is around 150 supplied & fitted. The triton t90xr is 8 to 12 years old. The average life span of an electric shower is 10 years. A new triton t90sr is around 350 supplied & fitted. It's better value to replace the shower if it's around 10 years old rather than repairing it.

Not to step on the thread but my parents one has had very little use... In an en suite that only used when visiting.. seems unlikely would be bearing's?

Motors/pumps are designed to be used. Even an electric shower in a guest room should be ran for 30 seconds or so every fortnight. They seize up from lack of use. Turning on a seized motor can damage the bearings. I wouldn't fit a 2nd hand shower but if I did I'd rather fit a well used one rather than a clean shiny 10 year old one that hasn't been used.

Is there a danger of still using the shower? Apart from going deaf

It could be dangerous if it stops pumping or splutters out some scalding water. It'll probably start pumping out thick black smoke before it gets to that stage.

Usually no problem. It'll just get louder and louder
