Import from Malaysia

Went to see a car today in Bill Griffin's. Powerful enough petrol engine with big tax so price reflected this. Expected that it was a UK import.... when I looked at the service book it was originally registered to someone at the Irish embassy in Malaysia so price and spec make sense now.

Car on Irish plates now so no issue there, but anything else I should look out for? Insurance might be an issue?

Not sure what the language settings would be on the stereo/infortainment/sat nav system, that might wreck my head if it wasn't English or was a cheapo aftermarket replacement.

Insurance might be more expensive might not, if it has an immobilizer and you declare it does that should reduce the price.

Is the engine in it one which is available in similar model cars here? Insurers like to be able to benchmark it against something on the road here already.

Radio unit is OEM and in English. No SatNav. Didn't get to check range of FM frequency.

I believe it has an immobiliser.

The engine was available in the UK, not sure if it would have ever been sold in this model in Ireland (demand would have been non-existent once the CO2 basis of assessment started.

Will call the insurers on Tuesday and see what they say.

The car could well have been imported into Malaysia from the UK.
