192 vs 191

I'm getting a new car soon, dealer says it will be delivered on May 20th.

Is it worth getting them to hold it for a month and a bit, and registering as a 192? I know the difference between one year and another is big, but is there as big a change in trade-in value?

My current car is on its last legs, so I'm eager to get the new one, but if it's worthwhile, I can wait.

If you plan on changing it in the next year or two, it will make a difference on trade in value. But if you are planning on keeping the car 6 or 7 years, I wouldn't worry about it and just take the car now. Especially if you are worried your current car could cost you money in repairs between now and the new car....as that might wipe out any money extra you could get on a trade in on the 192 reg.

The dealer possibly won't want you to wait until 192 either, as your car could be part of their 191 sales figures

Does say a 172 actually make more money than a 171 or get better trade in?

Depends on your deal. You should be getting a good deal to bring into 191 reg. If you push out to 192 you might lose that deal

Thanks for the replies. Dealer said nothing about the deal or trade-in would change, so that's not a factor. Planning to keep the new one for at least 5-7 years, so I'll probably just take the car whenever it arrives.

Oh you might as well get it now then. Less a week to go. Imagine having to wait another 6 weeks.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

In 5-7 years the plate change will make zero difference, go for it.

    Why didn't they do 191, 192, 193, 194, 195, 196, 197, 198, 199 ????
Would make perfect sense, wouldn't it.
Each period of about 40 days.
