    Hi everyone,

I was made redundant last November and have been on JB since then,I had my meeting with the social welfare office in utero and had a progression plan made. I made it clear to her that I wanted to attend full time education and get a degree after being in a dead end job for 10 years straight. She said her job is to get me back into the work force and if I don't make any efforts to do so she will cut my JB. The plan included a jobs club course for 2 weeks which I attended and have since been set up by my vase officer for an online course which links to the degree I'm looking to achieve on education. I told her it will help me find employment in the area I want quicker but in reality it wont,it will just help me understand part of the career better,I have applied for jobs but haven't really since Feb when I started this online course.

I am now due to attend a activation review next week,I haven't heard from my case officer in 4 months nor have I contacted her since the course started. My applications for jobs has been empty for a few months and I'm wondering will she cut my JB even though im doing this course without looking for work? I dont want to be pushed into another dead end job by them when I finally have a decent chance at an education and want to better myself for me and my family and my career prospects

I completely understand where you’re coming from, and I do think it would be great to help people get qualified in an area they can get a decent job, but the reality unfortunately is that to be in receipt of jobseekers benefit you must be actively seeking employment. Yes it is highly likely you will get sanctioned at your meeting. There are ways to play the system if you need to stall for a couple of months to get yourself set up for your degree....
