I am running tight on grass. The regrowth is slow. Stocked fairly heavy. Should be alright would be happier if I had a bit more in font of me. Pasturebase figures look fine but sailing a little close to the wind. How’s everyone else

Piles of grass. Was a bit late getting out trying to get silage ate up. Still have the autumn calvers in but calves are in and out and getting meal. Doing great thrive with weights to match. Closed off more ground than usual and spread fert last week. Not early but will be cutting earlier than usual. Could probably do with another 20 cattle but a lot of money going into bull beef so will leave it until after they're sold.

If you have cattle out early April is always the hardest month

Aye. We usually squeeze bulls so we’d have those 20 more cattle to go out. This year trying finishing them see how it goes. Not just thrilled yet

Why try to get the silage used up? Not better off left in the pit until next year? Or if you got all bales, the put more wrap on the few that you expect to be carried over.

No it wouldn’t have kept needed to eat it up. Keeping bales though I dare say I’ll be glad of them

There's more than reseeds growing,...... growing far too fast here anyway.
even though we're heavily stocked and minimum N out

Have to agree with that. Reseeds really outperforming the older fields here with the same fert out.

Don’t see us reseeding anything this year we did maybe 45 acres last two years including mole draining. Maybe put up a few new gates

Heavily stocked here so it’s either re seed or cut back and of course I go the mad route - much to the dismay of the missus.

Cover >200 per cow stocked at 3.5. Will be mowing this weekend to drop cover to 180/cow. Grew 60 last week 70 week before, probably hitting 90-100 this week after that lovely rain. Giving N wind for a few days won’t help though

Sun is strong this time of the year, so bar a bit of frost,it mightnt be too bad
Probably bitter enough on the immediate east coast though
Wind was NW here in East Wicklow today and at 6pm turned sharply northeast off the sea
The air temp dropped 4c in 30 minutes!
That sea is cold and within 4 or 5 km of it,if the wind is off it,you'd know all about it
    Plenty grass here thank God
