    Hi there,

I got my new FUEL filter from a well known Irish motor factors. I went to change it this morning.

I pulled out the old one today and it looks like this:

And then I take the one out of the new box and it looks like this:

    PU8014-0_f4bd90.jpg
(it is shorter and has that little straw thing on the side).

I've double checked on the website and it says that both the filters shown above are compatible with the same car. I'm wondering if I have the wrong filter and maybe if it was wrong on the website, or will either do the same job?

    thanks,

Just checking the code on the new filter and the website manufacturer says it that it is compatible. Think I might just try putting it in and trying it.

Is that not a fuel filter rather than an oil filter?

Sorry, you're right, did the oil filter last week. Still have that on the brain.

Different brands may have slight deviations but once it's listed as compatible I wouldn't be too worried once it fits. You seem like you know what your at and have researched online to see if it's compatible. I can't confirm as I haven't done that on a golf myself but one of the other users may have come across this before.

If I was in your shoes, I'd be firing ahead with it anyway at this stage.

If it's different it's not going to work, and these are two completely different filters.

The "straw" on the side is for the housing with water level sensor,

Your car could have either filter, one or the other.

Sounds like you need the type without the straw, if that's what came out of it.

Yeah I'm just not comfortable putting the thing in. I don't want the car cutting out on the motorway and then having to do repairs on the side of the road.

I think I'll just order the other one that with the same model number as the one that is in the car now, and use that instead.
