    Hi Folks

Looking for some tips on a painting job I am about to undertake, I’m going to approach it bit by bit as I’ll be painting on different surfaces ie over painted walls and walls which have wallpaper painted over.

There was a job done recently but not to a good standard so for example

    1. Walls have large areas of cracked/peeling paint. Should i strip all the paint off the walls in this situation or just touch up where the paint is peeling which would be my preference.

    2. Walls with wallpaper painted over don’t look great as in some areas wallpaper is peeling:/can see seams etc, what’s the best way to approach this in terms of tidying up areas where wallpaper is peeling without having to strip all the original paper and start again

I’m under no time pressure with this job and it’s basically a diy project, not looking for perfection here just to patch/tidy up the previous job

    Any tips be much appreciated

You don't seem particularly interested in a good finish. In which case, yes, just scraper back the loose paint (why it's loose is another question) and repaint. You could sand (feather) the edges where no paint meets paint to reduce the obvious step. And/or apply some repair filler around the border between paint and no paint, sand smooth and reduce the step that way.

You can restick the wall paper with wallpaper paste brushed in from the loose edges. If loose in the middle of the sheet, you can slice a flap open, paste and restick. If the seam is a gap between sheets then fill with the aforementioned repair filler. If overlap, little to be done (although you could run a blade down a straightedge, peel the sliver away and fill the gap with filler as before.
