Need something cheapish as mentioned as other day being used by wife driving for new job. What are opinions on this Mazda6? Is mileage too high?

Fire up a link and we will have a look

Looks nice to me. People say the engines are delicate but if it's still here I'd think it's ok. Great to drive but parts are pricey

    The 1.8 petrols burn oil.

The 2.0 diesels are very unreliable.

I'd look at something else op.

What exactly is the criteria for your potential new car? Petrol/diesel?
    Saloon/hatch/estate? Budget?

I thought it was the 2.2 diesels that are unreliable?

The 2.0 in the previous shape was dogshít so there may be holdover in some of the design or parts. It was so bad that I'd never trust them with any diesel again.

No the 2.0 were as bad if not worse.

Apparently the new 2.2's are sorta ok but you're talking 2016+ mazda 6's for those.

We're talking about an 11 year olds diesel. If it was going to go bang it would have already happened. There's a lot more shyte out there at similar ages from supposedly reputable brands. If a car at that age checks out and had been well maintained I'd take a punt on it.

Any engine can give bother sure. But why take a punt of an engine that has a reputation for being unreliable when you could take a punt on one that doesn't.

If your heart is set on a mazda 6 op go for the 2nd generation model with the 2.0 petrol engine. This is supposedly a very good combination. And the 1.8's in them mightn't be too bad either as mazda may have sorted the oil burning issues that dogged the gen 1.

How many miles a you going to be using it for?

1.8 petrol burns oil or not. I have seen high mileage examples of <2008 model of Mazda 6 without this issue so there is a risk but not guaranteed.

I think they are overall reliable cars in petrol form.

Here is a nice example: https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/mazda-6-2008-low-tax-diesel-hatchback-new-nct/21729588

Id want some warranty on the engine though.
