Reverse around the corner

Today I had discussion with friend of mine. In eu country I recieved my licence from we never had to do "reverse around the corner".
She is doing her test soon. So anyway, discussion led to reverse around the corner.
It's a bizzare task. Not only dangerous it's unpractical. I never seen anyone reverse around corner. Can anyone explain why is this task included in driving test if its clearly extremely unsafe.
Such as paraler parking should be included. I've noticed not many people can do it properly without mounting kerbs or parking miles away from it and creating obstruction on road.

Also just off the beat. She suffered with extreme post natal depression as of that anxiety is extremely high. Does she have to provide psychiatric notes or anything before taking the test? Thanks

Reversing around the corner is done to demonstrate you can control the car, using mostly clutch control, whilst being aware of what is going on around you and avoiding an obstacle. Without knowing most people do it most days eg. reversing into or out of a driveway, a parking space, around the side of a house etc etc. turning at the end of a road which has a hammer head is a specific reverse around a corner also.
It isn’t at all dangerous if you reverse from a main road into a side road and it’s done in a slow and controlled manner.

She doesn’t need to supply anything regarding her anxiety. If, while she’s on test, she gets overly anxious she should tell the test that she has to pull in, pick somewhere safe or the tester will advise her. The tester will give her a few moments to compose herself before carrying on.

Why do you think it's 'bizzare', 'dangerous', 'unpractical' and 'clearly extremely unsafe'?

Of the thousands killed on our roads over the years, I don't think anyone was killed while doing the reversing manoeuvre in a driving test.

(Those doing the CE test are required to do so with a 45ft trailer).

it's a basic skill to be able to manoevre the car in reverse. This exercise is designed to show you can control the car in reverse. It isn't in any way dangerous and reversing is something one has to do on nearly every trip. Would you prefer having to reverse into a parking space on your test? same skill required.

It has much to do with observational skills also as a reversing vehicle has no right of way and must give way to every other vehicle.

If you were in the car with me today you would have seen me do it twice, while looking for an office in an industrial estate.
