Hi all been a long time since I posted here, Just want honest opinions and not salesmen talk. Currently have an audi a5 sportback.177hp but I want to know is it safe to take it to 210 or 220? I was told diesel consumption goes way down, more torque and better acceleration. While I believe it's true I'm worried will it put too much strain on the engine and turbo etc? Also you would need to go to a reputable crowd to get it done. I was quoted 200 euro for a remap. Cheers and honest answers/experience appreciated..

Mate had his 2009 Octavia VRS (167BHP I think) go to 225BHP with just a map. That car is still going strong. Diesel consumption went down certainly but I wouldn't say way down.

So long as your engine is in good nick as is it should be fine.

Diesel consumption won't go way down.

You may see an improvement in mpg's if all the emissions stuff is gotten rid of but that's a bigger step to take than a stage 1 remap.

Fuel consumption will go slightly down if you take advantage of the increased torque and shift up sooner.

Your driving style will save you fuel costs, the remap will only facilitate it.

Had a 3 series mapped from 177 to 220bhp, never had a problem. Didn't notice any difference in fuel consumption

I'd love to know who is doing a proper remap with dyno runs before and after for €200. Guy meeting you in a carpark with a laptop and cable I'd imagine?

You will be paying around €400 for a good custom remap by someone who knows what they are doing, with runs on a rolling road (dyno) before and afterwards for comparison. The guys doing it for €200 are most likely buying a generic map file over the internet for your make/model and then flashing it on your car's ECU. These can be hit or miss.
