Of that I'm not sure they are effectively brand boutiques so assume it's some sort of partnership.

Was in Belfast last week and McNeelys is closing down its shop.. they always had a decent selection of used rolex/omega etc.. was chatting the owners son and they are going to keep the watch side of it going.. he reckoned jewelry isnt moving but its pretty obvious things have slowed down significantly with watches in the last 2 years as well

I think the likes of weirs, old family businesses, probably own the building, have Rolex and Patek which will have always have demand at some level and will be safe enough. On the other hand, having thousands of square feet of premium retail spaces dedicated the Panerai, JLC and Cartier is bonkers. And the Cartier store doesnt even do the jewellery, only the watches. Like Cyrus said anyone that buys the Pual Sher1n brands at retail has rocks in their heads, even at the height of the watch boom, Panerai and JLC were a hard sell.

A lot of the fly-by-night, backpack and hoodie type dealers have gone to the wall already. I am getting emails about watches I "put my name down for" 3-4 years ago, but dont have a notion of getting sucked back in however. I think a lot of the watch retailers in Ireland, anyway, will have to relearn what customer service is, and rebuild a loyal customer base as they went out of their way to alienate the watch enthusiast over the last 5 years or so, and its those customers that sustain you in a cool spell. Too many potential customers like myself just got used to not getting what we wanted at retail and have learned to live happily with that.

At this stage if I wanted something special I would just ask iChrono Chris to get it for me and pay him, he has been the most reliable place in Ireland to get watches for me over the years, never any bullshit and long time in the game. If I am in a bargain hunter sort of mood your watch finders and Chrono24's are solid as well. Bricks and Mortar may be a little dead.

A kind offer and a real sign of the times that you got a call for it, that you don’t want it and that no one is taking up the offer.

I tried that exact watch on in Keanes last Autumn and was told 6 months wait time. Not for me, glws.

I've had the blue one it's a lovely watch in the green but I can't take it just now, one boardsie is potentially interested if not I'll just decline!

Definitely worth a punt for someone if they were thinking about it, I've been waiting well over a year for a blue one!

    No golfers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,352 ✭✭✭CalamariFritti

    Why would it not be?

Only reason I'm not is cos its too handy to have that GPS thingy on your wrist instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,264 ✭✭✭micks_address

I was wondering about shock absorption when hitting drivers etc..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,352 ✭✭✭CalamariFritti

I wouldnt think so. There may be mishits of course and severe mishits - like hitting the ground rather than the ball - may hurt your wrist/hand but these should be pretty rare. I'm an average enough golfer myself and I cant remember the last mishit that was so bad it hurt. Certainly years ago if any.

During a normal golf swing/shot there should be little if any impact energy towards the hand. Especially with the driver for which the ball is teed up and ground strikes would be extremely unlikely.

I'm only talking about mishits, ground strikes cos ball contact alone wouldnt be of any concern I think. The idea is the club head does the work with its weight and the swing just provides the clubhead speed. Youre not really hammering the ball like you might for example in tennis. In a good golf shot you barely feel the impact.

It never occurred to me personally as a concern and I have often played with a watch on my wrist and they never took damage afaik.

I’ve always worn a watch when out shooting and never had an issue ,obviously lot more impact on the arms and watch than hitting a golf ball so can’t see why wearing one while golfing would be an issue.

I wore an automatic three hander, albeit of military origin, while clipping a hedge. It was about 50-60m metres of fairly dense hedging and the watch was fine. I can't imagine golfing would be that much harder than clipping and slashing boughs.

It was a cheap, though sentimental value, Vostok.

I'm a drummer and I never wear one of my mechanical watches while drumming. No scientific basis for the habit - just seems like it would be excessively harsh on the movement.

Got any thoughts on Oris swatches?

I'm a little bit in love with the Miss Piggy Pro Pilot X at the minute. Just love the colour. I'm female. So much stronger than the usual kind of pinks. It's a real IDGAF colour. A bit pricey though for a casual kind of watch.

Anyone know what Oris quality is like?

Oris are very well respected. I don't think I could pull off the Miss Piggy, but I would definitely wear the Kermit one that the do!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,017 ✭✭✭caviardreams

Thanks. I actuallly LOVE the kermit colour (and the kermit in the date window) and wish they did it in a smaller case size like the piggy.

Can we please have watch designs in both big/small please :)

I think Oris are great - over 2K is a fair chunk though

Anyone know if the Explorer 2 white dial is a wait list watch at the moment ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,553 ✭✭✭Ryath

I've posted good deals from them a good few times as they often best value for Seiko and bought a Samurai Manta Ray from them last year. Bit suspicious of it now though. Pretty sure it is genuine, wish I could find an article saying what brands the fakes were. I'd be inclined to think the fakes are more likely for the fashion brands.

Yeah, seems to be according to Keane's two weeks ago. I think it could be a short wait as they were eager to put me on the list, but didn't say how long

They didn't have one in stock, but will give me a call when one comes in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,000 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

Had one when they originally came out, nice watches, they wear big and didn't have any micro adjustment so can be hard to get a good fit, I actually found the black dial easier to love with but the steel bezel was always a concern!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,000 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

Anyone know if this could be serviced in Ireland? A buddy dropped it to Weirs, ages later he gets a service quote from omega Switzerland for 1800…he has it back now unserviced 😂

I dont know anyone in Ireland doing that work but, if memory serves me right, electricwatches.co.uk have been mentioned a bit on TZ and Omega Forums as reliable.

I’ve been thinking of trying one for a while but I think I prefer the 216570 over the current one, minor differences but the little differences make all the difference.

Has an easi link as far as I know ? I had the black bay pro which is the Tudor version of it and really liked it apart from its thickness . I’m used to the Santos scratch magnet bezel so the steel bezel doesn’t concern me too much .
