If that trailer's anything to go by, looks like they're definitely angling for a more horror flavour; shades of The Thing with all those tentacles flying around. If nothing else, DC can't be accused of not varying the work; Titans, Doom Patrol and now Swamp Thing all have very different tones...

Still feels like the horror angle

Love the look and feel to that trailer.

Hopefully it's as batsh1t crazy as Doom Patrol.

Really looking forward to this now I have to say.

    Titans was good.

Doom Patrol was batsh1t crazy and totally amazing.

So hopefully this can follow on from those two.

Wonder if Netflix will show this or Doom Patrol; had heard they penned a deal with DC for international broadcast.

I really liked that pilot episode and the feel of it.

    Len Wiseman directed it.

Yeah totally agree, liking the tone of this already and that morgue scene was creepy and cool at the same time.

    That was good.

I swear, I had just come to the idea that
he must be swamp thing and could transform back and forth to human or not. Him getting shot and blown up was not on my radar.
    The gore of this
will take a bit of getting used to if it's gonna be throughout.. although there was something of a similar barrier to get over with titans (
    all the throat cutting
) and I got past that.

This now being the third live action show in this generation of shows, I think it's a kinda cool thing they've got going on with the intro music on each show. It kinda gets you into the feel of the show. Titans is still the top jingle for me :)

If they don't lose budget, then this could keep delivering up quality content I reckon.

Yeah I’m hoping down the road we get some form of crossover event like with the arrow verse . If all the shows get a second season use them to lay the breadcrumbs for a big event series or even mini crossover like Cyborg teaming up with the Titans.

what was virginia madsen going on about in the first ep?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

I assume she's telling Abby to get the F out of town because of something that happened to her daughter years ago.

Abby later said to Alec that she felt .. or was? .. responsible for the daughter dying.

Excellent first episode, best pilot of the DC trio so far, though I did very much like Titans and Doom Patrol. It's amazing how all three are so stylistically different, too.

Pretty disturbing in parts, real 'The Thing' vibe off a few scenes. The autopsy scene was amazing.

Big thumbs up, DC are knocking it out of the park with these TV shows.

Top notch first episode with amazing visuals throughout. Roll on episode 2.

Disappointed with thread content after reading title.

Assumed it was about draining the swamp in DC

That adds credence to the story a few weeks ago that all these shows were being cancelled :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,275 ✭✭✭EoinMcLovin

Swamp Thing seems to have been cancelled as a result of an accounting error in relation to the tax rebate from North Carolina meaning it would be too expensive to do a second season

Haha, of all the reasons for a cancellation, an accounting mistake seems perversely hilarious. €80 million for a TV show on a niche, America only network is insane though, rebate or no rebate.

That is pretty unfortunate. Interest in the show and viewing figures will likely plummet as a result, making a bad situation worse.

They were originally meant to shoot more episodes as well but didn't in the end and wrapped filming early, so I can't see it just ending as a self-contained series.....and if that is the case, I won't be watching the rest of it either.

North Carolina now denying that there was no accounting error.
    https://www.cbr.com/swamp-thing-north-carolina-denies-tax-break-miscommunication/
Guy Gaster, the Director of the North Carolina Film Office, contacted CBR to clarify that the state and Warner Bros. entered into their contract with both parties fully aware of how the numbers would break down. Further, Mr. Gaster provided the amount of the tax rebate, as well as the actual tax break amount Swamp Thing was eligible to receive for its pilot episode, and Season 1 overall.

The production team for Swamp Thing knew before production began that North Carolina would offer up to $4.9M in rebates for their pilot episode and $12M for the remainder of season one. They accepted said offer and even signed a contract with the state with those figures. Per state legislation, the NC Film and Entertainment grant can only award up to $12M per season for a series. Per the program’s guidelines, pilot episodes are counted as their own series. In total, the program only receives $31M annually.

That's a damned pity :( The production values are cinematic. Looks fantastic.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

That's kinda the problem in the first place though ;) 10s of millions on a niche streaming service is/was madness...

Anyone know if and when there's going to be a third one out?
Thought it was great so far, such a shame if they don't keep it going.Though the pilot seemed better than the episode after, but would love to watch more.

    the romance is very undercooked

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,868 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Fourth episode in and it should have been just called The Swamp - hardly ever see Swamp Thing, fourth episode he only appears for a few minutes in total. That probably makes for a total of 10 minutes the whole season so far
Far too many convoluted stories going on

start of ep 4 is pretty nasty

would it have been possible for the same actor to play both alec and the swamp thing

The stunt man who plays Swamp Thing is 6’ 5’’ while the actor who plays Alec is 5’ 10’ so yeah it would not have made sense. The same was done in Doom Patrol

they could have gotten one slightly taller/bigger actor to play both parts could they not? then used tall boots, padding, camera positioning to make him look big as swamp thing

Just finished the last episode there, pity there won't be a second season as a few good stuff were set up in the last 2 episodes. Also there is a post credit scene in the last episode that can't be missed

Are you sure? I signed up to prime yesterday and got swamp thing no problem. Only watched a couple of minutes as I want too finish a couple of other shows first. Looking forward to it.

Yep, I was wrong. There must have been a delay on activating it on the Irish version or something.

What's the point of even watching a cancelled show where swamp thing made a rare appearance and left lots of cliff hangers.
Must be some numb skull in amazon who approved buying the show unless there was some weird commitment

Agree on the above. Plus the episode order was culled from 13 to 10, so apparently the finale is a bit of a hurried mess.

It was reviewing well AFAIK too, so it's a shame that bureaucratic mess with the budget effectively killed it. I was curious to see what a full-blown horror adaptation might look like but I just don't have the enthusiasm for a moribund show.

There is alot of content difference between UK and Ireland. Its mainly shows that have been finished years ago, Smallville would be an example

Just getting back into this.. even though it's been cancelled..

    2: Maria
and her daughter and the jump scares! Yikes! They're like the scarier element of this for me... cos I keep telling myself that (even though I don't really know) Swamp Thing is supposed to be a hero.
This episode really came out well for a horror.
The effects for the full viewing of Swamp Thing also looked well.
    Story also feels solid.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

I had kept meaning to take a look at this, but I just can't raise the interest in watching a canceled show. Just feels pointless - especially one whose run was chopped up to begin with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,393 ✭✭✭Cotts72

It's a shame cause I actually enjoyed it, it had that different alternative superhero show vibe like doom patrol. Was really interested to see where they'd go with a second season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

3: More gorey horror than jump scare horror this time. Looks like
more than one person can get powers from the swamp
    . So I'm guessing that
Marias daughter might be infected with this same swamp.. thing/curse? as Swamp Thing although.. maybe she was infected years ago and that's what Avery started his research for.
