I did something stupid at the beginning on February 2019, and only today I received the letter informing me about my offence and that I have 28 days to pay ...

I will pay that as I'm not disputing what happened but like seriously it took them 70+ days to send me this letter ??

Is there a time limit on something like that or can they send you a letter 1 year after alleged offence ???

They have 6 months to begin prosecution on a summary offence. So the have 6 months to apply for a summons.

The fixed charge penalty notice gives you 28 days to pay and depending on the offence, and if you haven't paid you'll be given another 28 days to pay a higher amount before a summons is issued.

Once the fcpn is issued more than 56 days before the date they have to issue the summons there is no issue.

Best practice would usually be to issue the fcpn within 2 to 3 weeks, but doesn't always happen.

I can’t remember off hand but it’s a little over 100 days from date of offence to when the FCPO won’t accept the garda application for a notice.

That allows sufficient time for the FCPO to process the ticket, send it out to the outsourced printers, time for initial 28 days to pay, another 28 days at increased rate, and finally sufficient time to apply for a summons for non payment.

I’m confused, you say you did the something stupid in February 2019, and that it took 70+ days to send the letter but you also said it’s been 1 year since the offence? Was it in February 2018 or 2019 it happened?

1 year I'm asking question is it possible for them to still send you the notice. Unrelated to the main story 😀

Hypothetically could they send him the FCPN a year later

They could sure but you would be under no obligation to pay it.

You are never under an obligation to pay it.
