Squeaky front suspensions

So it apears the squeaky noise is coming from the suspension, rather than from the power steering pump.

When the car was parked, I pushed down the front right and left corners of the bonnet and same squeaky sound was heard.

Could it be problem with bushings or some other major issue?

Although the noise is not too loud, but I am focusing on it while driving under 40kmph. On higher speed the wind noise cancels this squeaky noise.

Depending on the squeak it can be bushing, springs or shocks.
You need a mechanic to look at it and quote you a price.

    Ok, thanks so much.

Went to the Mercedes dealer. Says front "lemforder control arm" needs to be replaced and quoted 350 euros + labour charges.
    Does it sound right?
    For C Class model.

Shall I get non-dealer to look at it also?

How old is the car? Those labour charges will add up massively at a mercedes dealer I can only imagine. If the car is a bit older then I would look elsewhere to get the work done.

You don't need a main dealer to do that type of work.

    2015 C class model.
    Warranty is over now.

Labour in the range of 150 + vat.

Alright. Do you think it's too technical to be done at a local garage? Or straight forward job?

That should be a straight forward job for any decent mechanic. Just ensure good quality parts are used.

    Cool.

Will get it checked at a local mechanic which has good reviews.

Do I need to get genuine Mercedes part given it's part of the suspension?

Before buying the part, talk to a mechanic first.

Many do not want you to source the part, they prefer to do it themselves so they use a part they trust.
Some are ok with you getting the part so they don't have to.

    Thanks everyone.

Got it replaced at a local mechanic for the half price as compared to the dealer.
No noise and a smooth ride now.

Wishbones are an expensive part even going aftermarket. If you buy a cheap one or your garage uses a cheap part there's a reason for that - it won't last kissing time. On a premium German car especially, they need to be the OEM brand for durability or from another reputable brand.

Yea it was OEM. Let's see how long it lasts now. I looked at the item, and it looked of good built.

It's from First Line brand. Is it a good company?

Not really, they are popular but wouldn't be an OEM equivalent component IMO, but they were half the price, so there's a trade off there somewhere.

Ok cool. There is warranty for 2 years or 24000 miles.

    So suspension noise has resolved.

However, steering wheel needs to be bit on right side in order to drive straight. What could be the issue? Is it related with suspension repair? Noticed it only after the repair.

    Probably need your tracking checked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,915 ✭✭✭masterboy123

    Is it same as alignment?

Yes. Wheel alignment is the same thing as tracking.

Tracking/alignment is often needed after suspension work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Always recommended to get the alignment/tracking done again after getting suspension work done.
