Hi all, do people know if grass seed expires or how long have people found it to still work from? Have grass seed here stored in dry bag in attic for approx 7 years and want to seed a corner of a field so wondering whether it still works or not. Same applies to lawnseed which I have for approx 5 yrs as I need to reseed the bottom part of garden also? TIA

Burn the seed and buy fresh seed.
    It’s worthless.

You could do a germination test and see

    Probably agree
With the cost of seeding etc do you really want to take the chance.

Even reduced germination will allow weeds on causing further spend.

    I’d say new seed,

Even if germination is 80%+, the vigor would be fcuked...you’d probably get away with last years grass seed, but any older would be a waste of time, imo.

I’ve been caught often enough with carryover seed. Never again.

Thanks all, I might be as well off to get fresh grass seed and lawn seed separately so...too much work in it to have it not taking properly and weeds always fly now from now on. What are good varieties to use for grazing, need not be top of the range seed as rest of field is old grass and is let out for grazing. What rate should field and.lawn be down at respectively? Will be set by hand so any tips on techniques welcome!
