Proof of taking test.

I have a test coming up in a couple of weeks but it's clear I won't be anywhere near ready to take it (already delayed it a few times so can't again).

My current L Permit is my third and I needed proof of a scheduled test to get it.

I was told at the time I'd so need proof of actually taking a test to get a further renewal.

Will I be able to just turn up, say I'm not ready and get something in writing to apply for my next L permit?

If you're going to show up you might as well take the test and do the best you can.

I've been told it would be a waste of everyone's time at this stage and don't have a vehicle in any case.

Thanks though, I had initially been of this mindset.

Ok. Call up the test centre and see what they can do for you.

You know you can reschedule upto twice without losing the test fee? Would a letter or email from the rsa not be proof enough of an upcoming test to renew? Have you been driving for the past 4 years on learner permits out of curiosity?

My first permit was just gotten purely for the sake of having it and I wasted 2 years of using it.

If you can find a way to sit the test then why not do it? Are you someone who comes down very hard on yourself? What did your driving instructor think?

Im on my third permit as it is tbh.

Worse than yourself, essentially wasted the first two permits.

The appointment email from the RSA is sufficient evidence to get another learner permit.

As said above you'd be better off rescheduling the test for a later date otherwise your basically throwing away the bones of 90 quid.

So your renewal is up after the driving test date?

If so, then you'll need proof of having failed the test i.e., the statement of driving test outcome. This is one way to do it and the renewed permit is valid for 2 years in this case.

The other route is to show proof of an upcoming test, for which you'll need to schedule a test again and show the confirmation of the booking as proof. In this case, the renewed permit is only valid for 1 year.

I understand from your first post that you have already rescheduled the test a few times so you can't put it off anymore. I don't know if you get a statement of outcome if you turn up and say you can't take the test. Like others said, I would find a way to take the test if possible.

But if you don't end up with a statement of outcome from this test, you will need to take the second route and schedule another test so you can renew your permit. What you can do to give yourself time to practise and get to test standard is to specify that you won't be available for 2-3 months or whatever time you think you'll need. You are given this option when making the booking online. This is what I did when I had to renew my permit back in January - marked myself unavailable until the end of March, so when I got a test date, it was scheduled for April 1st.

Exactly, just cancel the test and reschedule if you really don't want to do it.
You only need the email from the RSA to say you have booked a test, not proof that you've sat a test to renew your learner permit.

Don't show up on the day with no intention of doing the test. That's wasting the tester's time and taking a slot from someone on the cancellation list.

And do it the next time you get a date- you can't reschedule forever. It won't be as bad as you're probably imagining! :)
