I'm on the lookout for a starter car for one of my family.
A 2008/9 Auris 1.4 petrol or diesel fits the insurance budget.
    Approx 10,000km per year.
There seems to be more 1.4 diesel available in my area.

Are there issues with the 1.4 diesel engines,DPF etc.,
    TIA.

If they are only doing that kind of mileage may aswell go for petrol

If your going petrol Auris then try and get one of the 09 1.33 litre versions as they were €280 to tax over the older 1.4 petrol which cost €570 to tax under the newer tax system. The 1.33 litre engine is also 6 speed and more fuel efficient than the older 1.4 litre engine. The 1.33 litre petrol was also only available in UK imports from 2009 and didn't make it to original Irish models until the facelift model in 2010.

Petrol Auris of that era is only a very average car. Not their finest hour.

Diesel is good. I’d prefer it to the petrol but it is inherently more complex than the petrol so more scope for issues.
