Wondering can anyone help me. Just came home to find a speeding fine from Spain. Am wondering any consequences of not paying it ?
My passport is up for renewal anyway ..

Pay it. If you go back to Spain, wouldn't there be a warrant out for your arrest?

I got one a few years ago through a hire company. Just paid it online.
Not worth the hassle worrying about what might happen.

Not sure what your passport renewal has to do with anything.

    How much is the fine?

Just pay the fine and be done with it, the same way you would pay if it were here.

The fine is 100 euro - My passport is about to expire, surely I would be fool to pay it ?

If you never intend to ever travel to Spain again for the rest of your life perhaps, if not I'd pay it. When travelling to Spain the airlines must give Spanish authorities the passport details of everyone travelling with them, they could be awaiting your arrival. Also if it's for a hire car you will have signed documentation to say you are liable for all fines.

This is common enough practice in most European countries. Unless you intend to never travel to the country again you won't get away with it

If you pay it within a certain timeframe it should be €50. Mine was.

The fact that you will be traveling with a new passport is irrelevant.

They still have all your details and will catch up with you.

Are you that naive that you think it's your passport they found you on?

You gave all your details to the hire car company. As has been said, pay your fine. It's not worth the hassle.

    For sure it's your choice.
Take a chance and look over your shoulder on your next visit or pay €100 to be a free man.
If you don't dispute that the fine is valid then paying might be the best option.
Long after the pain of the sting of parting with €100 is gone the comfort of having drawn a line under it will enhance your next trip to the sun.

If you're accepting that you were speeding and your conscience won't get in the way don't pay it

If you're bothered by it, pay it and the fact you're asking here indicates you are

There will not be any European arrest warrant if you don't like some people around here would like to think.. Or police waiting for you when you next land in Malaga or whereever

Why are you even considering not paying it?

You were speeding so pay up.

Would you have the same opinion of someone speeding in Ireland on holiday and not paying up when they went home?

Not sure why you are getting hung up on your passport expiring either.. your name won't change and they will have a copy of your driver's license too.

You hired it with a drivers licence which doesn't change number on renewal. So while you may get away with a new passport if you ever hire a car in Spain you are taking a big risk.

New passport wouldn't get away with it either, you don't magically disappear off all systems and show up as a new person once you get a new passport.

Don't the police run passport control?

I paid it - So here is the facts - Take moral arguments out of it.

Speeding in Spain is civil crime - You will not go to jail.

Of the fines that are not paid a subsection of these are handed to Spanish debt collectors. They will pursue it. If you are unlucky and are pursued and still don't pay they will put a black mark against your credit rating. Now if you are one of the lucky hundred thousand in Ireland that defaulted on your mortgage and got away with it, you might not give a fiddlers about some Spanish company putting a black mark against you for non payment of a speeding fine.
