    Hey Chaps,

Just curious as to who has the right of way here. The car coming from the R132 or the car looking to move into the exit lane to get onto the M1.

    Many thanks.

The car changing lane does not have right of way.
Green arrow is merging onto the slip road.

Green arrow is also changing lane into the slip road, no?

Red, green car is changing lanes.

I dont think there is a clear right of way, think courtesy and common sense prevails here
Edit, if the red is staying in his lane then he has no issues

Changing lanes the onus is on lane changer.

Indications also doesn't give one the right to change as it's only an indication that you intend to change but must wait till safe to do so.

You are best going a little further down to change and not right at the start as this is a pinch point.

Green arrow is crossing the solid white line so would definitely be in the wrong at that point. 50m further on, each is looking to change lanes but you must generally give way to traffic coming from the right (ie off the M1). However, they should not attempt to merge it to do so would cause traffic in that lane to come to a stop. This is not a slip road per se as it does not come to a stop. The key is therefore getting speed right and merging at the appropriate time even if 350 yards down the road. It doesn’t need to be done immediately.

Red, green car is changing lanes.

Red car stays on the slip road though, and then has to change lane. SO both changing lane.

I agree with how.gareth. I think this is just like any two lane one direction road, if both people want to swap lanes there is no right of way as such.

The OP did not indicate the red car was changing lane.

Red has right of way as green is crossing into the lane

    Thanks Folks,

I didn't cross the white line.... the line is just drawn there by chance. I thought as the left most lane was a slip leading to the motorway that the 'green' lane had priority. My bed so.

they should both hold their lanes until it is safe for one or other to merge

Both have to yield to traffic already in the lane they are changing to

If red was changing lanes they would also have to yield to the major road and to traffic coming from the right.
