Course Eligibility

    Hi,

There is a course I am interested in doing in one of the Institutes of Further Education (Level 5 course). I am currently on Jobseeker's Allowance,
but it's doubtful I would meet the criteria for Back to Education Allowance as I have an existing qualification at level 6, completed many years ago.
Is there is no way around this at all? As in, get an equivalent payment(whether it's btea or not) and be able to do the course?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

You could see if the course you fancy qualifies for the VTOS scheme as they don't have the same qualifying rules as BTEA. Also the rules for BTEA allow you to do a level 5 if you have a level 6 if the level 6 is in an area that isn't much use any more. It must also be at least 3 years old. So if you got a level 6 in COBOL programming 20 years ago they might allow you to a level 5 in Java.
