Brake fluid with oil

Hi all I accidentally put 500ml of brake fluid in my oil. Bought 1 litre tubs were beside each other and picked up the brake fluid one by accident without reading the bottle I put 500ml of it in my oil. As I own a corrolla that burns oil I top up eaver so often and was doing so today.

Did I do any harm to the engine? I drove it in and out of the local town today after topping up.

It'll make the engine stop faster anyways

just change you oil immediately and if ti does not blow up soon forget about it, if you cant change your oil get it towed to a garage

Did the same myself a few weeks back. Picked up a 5l Castrol can at home in the garage that I was sure was oil. Poured in half a liter and noticed it looked a bit too thin. Double checked and turned out it was waste brake fluid for recycling. I need to organise my garage a bit better.

Luckily I hadn't ran the engine and have a siphon and a spare 5l of oil so I did a quick oil change. More an expensive mistake than a fatal one.

You need to get the brake fluid out pronto.
It will cause havoc with the engine seals.

Get a full oil change asap.

Would it make sense for the OP to get another oil change 1k after they do this one to be 100% certain there is no trace of brake fluid or is that just my paranoia kicking in again?

This actually used to be (still is?) a handy-dandy quickie 'cure' for leaking power steering boxes on old Land-Rovers!
A splash of brake fluid into the reservoir (no need to drain any PS fluid off, it was already half/completely empty) and the seals on the box would swell up to stem the haemorrhage enough to keep you going for another good while.
You then replaced the steering box with a slightly less leaky example in due course :)

    That's what I'd do.
