They all have a walk in queue system for appointments, like an old school butchers 'take a ticket' style system. You register on an iPad inside the door and you get a number. Everyone is called in order then. Get up there early, on a weekday if possible. Like, half an hour before they open early, and start forming the queue. You'll be out 15 mins after they open.

Yep, you can walk into any one without an appointment, but there might be a long wait.
I was waiting almost 2 hours when I was in the Santry NDLS last month- it was worth it though; there were no appointments available for over a month!

About a month or so before my driving test, I thought of making an appointment at the Santry NDLS the same day as the test. But the date was beyond what was shown in the booking calendar. I realised that I was possibly being over-confident booking an appointment even before passing the driving test, so didn't bother for the next few weeks. I checked again a week before, and as expected, there were no appointments available, even for weeks after my test.

So, I went to the NDLS the same day that I passed my test. It was a Monday, and I walked in just before 3 pm. The estimated waiting time for my number was about 1.5 hours. For a moment, I thought of going away to do some window shopping, etc in the shopping centre and coming back in an hour. However, I still had to complete the application form, so decided to do that first in the waiting area.

As I was filling in the form, within a matter of minutes, the queue had moved a lot faster than what the estimate suggested. This was because about 3-4 numbers that were called were no-shows (most likely, people who made the mistake I almost made :D). I stuck around expecting more no-shows, and sure enough, there were loads. It looked quite possible that I would get called before I could complete the application form, so filled it in quickly.
I was out in half an hour.:)

So, yeah, definitely walk in. More importantly, don't leave once you get a number. :D

i was in city west on friday at about 1:30pm. walk in - waiting time ~2hrs. get a ticket number when u walk in from the ipad/screen/vdi. fill int the form and make sure you have all the documentation ready. they'll call your name and if u don't hear it or aren't around, they'll move on. actual time in the booth - 8mins

Longest I've ever waited doing a walk in, was about 45 mins. Just skip breakfast and head in early.

Yes, you will need to, unless you have taken the driving test in the last two years (in which case, you will need the statement of driving test outcome).

You will just need to print the email confirmation of the booking and submit that with your application.

I renewed mine in Jan this year, and since it was my 4th one, I had to book a driving test (my last test was back in 2013).

I managed to succeed (after about 4 attempts) in doing an online driving licence renewal application via MyGovID. I wonder who is responsible for the NDLS website: I found it really clunky to deal with, not retreiving material which I had saved. Any other views on NDLS?
