Why so few interracial relationships in Ireland?

There's a lot of relationships between Irish and other Europeans (Spanish, English, Polish, French etc..), Americans and Canadians but I seldom see between Africans or Asians compared to the UK.

Is it an issue with racism or just Ireland hasn't been open to multi-racial immigration long enough like the US and UK.

You are right, I never saw Africans going out with Asians.
    Raysism rears its ugly head

Anyone any idea where I can pick up popcorn? All out at the moment

From experience I can say the OP is wrong, we are not racist and in fact I know more friends here married to foreigners than Irish with Irish.

Living over in the US. Plenty of mixed race couples here but have to say Asian men get a rough go of it.

The Irish tend to stick to other Irish people when abroad or at home. At least outside Dublin, so many keep the same friends from secondary school and/or college for life. That doesn't seem to be the case for other nationalities.

Have one walk around Dublin city centre...

What I see everyday is Irish men with Filipina women, Korans, some blacks, Brazilians and eastern Europeans.

It's so much more noticeable than just a couple of years ago.

I myself am dating a Filipina. I'm simply not attracted to Irish women.

I've even bizarrely noticed some Irish women dating Filipino men. And many Irish women dating black men.

    Multicultural Ireland is here!

If there are less interracial relationships, and I don't believe that to be the case, then it's probably because the percentage of people of African and Asian descent in Ireland is still really low compared to other countries.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,134 ✭✭✭jimwallace197

People with African decent are more integrated into countries like American, France, UK, they haven't been in Ireland that long. Give it time & im sure this will change but its a strange thing to think about.

You're obviously looking in the wrong place or, more probably, not looking at all.

There are many mixed race families around here - African/Irish, African/eastern European, Asian/Irish, etc.

    Irish/British.

I'm into something exotic..Asian, Latina etc. Although, I don't think I could get in great with a Latina personality wise. Dating a Filipina is Kirk dating an American.. American accent and American culture. Only difference is the added exotic looks.

Yes, I got that. That being said, people who post things like "I'm not attracted to Irish women" are looking for a rise and an excuse to bash Irish women

In the main people are attracted to their own race/religion.
Also easier to form a relationship based on commonality.
Muhammad Ali believed whites should stay with whites, Black's with Black's etc.
I'm sure their is an inherent bias when picking a Life partner assuming people want their children to look like themselves

I see tonnes of mixed raced kids around so there must be a few.

    Back on track ...

Do you ever think it just might be because some other races might not like Irish people?

Why do the Irish have to be making all the decisions all of the time eh? Could that be a type of reverse racism maybe. I dunno.

Some of the interesting threads from the OP

Why so few interracial relationships in Ireland?

Why do people self-segregate a lot by gender in Ireland?

Does Ireland have a drug problem or not?

Why are there more attractive women at airports and hospitals?

Hhhmmm I think I'm detecting a theme here tbh....

Is this something that we're known for? I've been in the UK for 10 years now and whenever I've mentioned a girlfriend someone always seems to ask "Is your girlfriend Irish as well?". Always found it very odd.

I live in Malaysia and have a Malay boyfriend.

As for others not liking Irish, not true here in Asia. Be beating them off with a stick I do and even got through an issue at immigration here because the guy likes white women and I flirted a bit

For the record I am a fat oul wan so it's not like am some hot young thing.

I see a few mixed race children, I don't ever see their father though, the mother is usually a junkie or a large woman.

    Anecdotal but....
At work we come across a lot of guys with asian sounding names trying to get their new wives with eastern european sounding names added to accounts so they show up on their bills. They're usually in a ferocious rush to have this done, often asking if we can backdate it. The romantic in me says it's that asian lads have a bit of a gra for the eastern european girls. The cynic in me has other ideas though....

It's either (A) a warp in space time that draws wimmin from the baltic states and men from pakistan here to find their true loves and opposite numbers or (B) a fiddle.

    There's loads sure!
Plenty of Irish fellas who Irish women won't go near for one reason or another who attract the attention of nice foreign girl looking for a ticket to a better life!

I do see alot of Irish girls in rough areas into the African lads as well must of been all the rap music they grew up listening to?

Then you have the "Little pretty Asian girl fetish" so many white men are into as well.

For some reason African women don't seem to get the same attention..... I wonder why that is......

Was in the marriage registry place a few years ago in the waiting room n 2 asians lads there that were mates were there with their eastern European missus' to be.
The chemistry was electric between them! The women with sour pusses on them, obviously hadnt got the fat envelope yet!
The two lads spoke their language the whole time, dunno if they spoke a word to the women the whole time.
    True love!

I myself have dated women from all over the world and am regarded as a bit of a womaniser in social circles, I am currently dating a beautiful Brazilian woman and have been in Brazil already, Latina women are amazing and remind me of a wild mustang, they are firey for sure but if you treat them well and tame them boy will you be rewarded. I have dated Mexican, Filipina, Thai, Iranian, Israeli, Polish, Czech and Russian and a few Irish and American's etc.

I can say by far that Latina women are by far the best, if you marry a Filipina you marry the family unless she has a good job. I was deeply involved with one when I was in the UAE before for over a year and very nearly married her, she dumped me for some weakling 8 stone lad from her own country, I met an amazing Mexican after and once you go Latina you can forget anything else coming close.

Irish women don't do it for me anymore, their expectations are way too high, and suffer badly from alcohol and don't midn their bodies. When I was younger and skint they had zero interest but as my financial fortunes changed later in life I can now see a golddigger a mile off. I must say that the greatest thing to happen to Ireland in recent times has been the massive waves of Latin immigration from Brazil to study English. Not only has it made landlords millionaires it has brought great vibrancy to the city-centre of Dublin and squeezed out alot of the welfare parasite class from rental accommodation also.

OK serious answer. Unlike other countries there haven't been that many different cultures here. When I was in school it was a load of milky white boggers. Was driving through town (Mullingar) recently at school finishing time and there was every sort of colour on the streets. I'm sure it will increase in years to come. A further point, how many 20 plus year olds are from the fair green sod from different heritages? Loads are here from culture that are fairly different so people may have kept themselves to themselves however as above this will change as kids grow up side by side.
