Anyone who is competent at dissecting a watch movement and examining it?

An odd request I think but nothing ventured...

Any posters here (or know of someone) who is properly competent at watchmaking - enough so that they can be given a watch movement to examine and teardown and give me a report on how it checks out mechanically?

i.e. I supply them a movement and hopefully they can give me a proper rundown of how the movement compares to say a Seiko NH35 or ETA 2824...or more esoteric movements.

I'd be happy to pay for such a report provided it's at the required level of detail (examining machining, assembly, oiling, technical decisions made etc.)

It's a long shot but hopefully someone here can do it or knows someone who can...

My 2 cents would be that anyone who is not a professional watchmaker might be well able to dissasemble and rebuild the watch after cleaning it etc. I used to be able to do that myself before the eyes weakened.
But to give an opinion on how the movement compares to other movements from a mechanical, component, quality perspective would require someone who has a lot of experience in servicing movements. ie, a professional watchmaker.
Not all watchmakers would be happy to provide such a report incase it comes back to haunt them in some way or other. I would imagine your best bet may well be to phone around and ask. But as you say, longshot, someone here may have a more specific direction.

Yeah - I've had fun disassembling movements (harder to reassemble I found :D ) - haven't gone to oiling step yet.

But nowhere near the level of competence to examine a movement and say if it is a "good" one or not.

From my legal background it's also why I only suggested payment - if no payment for a report the reporter will be more "protected" that they were just giving musings rather than a contracted out piece of work. But that's neither here nor there - I'm just trying to find someone to help me examine a movement.

Anyone else have any ideas? I know Ireland is a small enough place that if there is someone they're probably here or known by someone here.

Chances are on the internet somewhere a watchmaker has already taken apart and critiqued the movement. At least with modern movements(and even a fair few vintage).

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    What movement is it?

Ah, NO! I'd make a balls of it for sure. I can change a battery no problem or adjust a strap.

But I have seen my uncle do it many many times.
Really cool to see it lying there completely apart.

www.watchfix.ie seems like a nice chap.

I like the posts he puts up on Instagram of watches taken apart for servicing.
