It isn't, the Examiner falls further from relevance. There are real issues out there, this 'poor pitiful me' feature tugs at the heartstrings of the lowest common denominator.

Its all about selling sell as much as you can who cares if its **** news.

Digital journalism basically amounts to transposing some mundane shoite from Instagram..

Tried to watch the video, gave up after she used 'like' for the 20th time (by this time I was about 9 seconds into the video)

I'd rather read that than some ****e in the Irish Times demanding gender neutral coffee stirrers at Insomnia.

Legitamite journalism is bad for business. Most major newspapers and broadcasters are running ads for banks. If that doesn't ring alarm bells in your head then you haven't been paying attention.

Journalism is certainly gone to sh1t but the sales team just sells advertising to a bunch of commercial clients - retailers, cosmetic companies, insurance companies, banks... and the money they receive is the radio station's only revenue besides sponsorships.

This, like, isn't, like, what, like, I, like, fancy, like, seeing, like, in, like, my, like, national, like, newspaper, like.

To be fair the standard of Irish journalism has always been horrific. Dig up newspapers from the 70s and 80s. You can actually smell the gargle off the editorials.

A16-year-old Irish student who was travelling on the same Iberia Airlines flight that prevented a 15-year-old Spanish student from boarding has said that she was "overwhelmed" by the ordeal at Dublin Airport on Wednesday.

Leigha Plunkett from Co Cavan said that she and Spanish student Ameal were two of four people who were chosen "at random" to wait on standby at the departure gate to board the Iberia Airlines flight to Spain.

Hate to use the term but 'snowflake"

    Leave her alone.

She is only a kid whose ambition is to run her own vlog and influence people. She will get there if she studies hard.

This is like the unhinged windbag blogger ‘activist’ in trinity who forgot to check we’re here details carried over on her Ryanair flight and tried and failed in a sjw social media crusade against them and tried something on a coffee place as well

I’d like to know how someone from Cavan ends up with an accent like that.

This is easily beaten by a whole segment on the RTE news about a "fat-berg". Reporter was the one and only George Lee. Even had an "expert" on for a few minutes. I suppose all is good in the world if this is what takes up the news time

She spent two days of a bank holiday weekend in Cork in 2014.

It’s no harm educating people that throwing baby wipes down the toilet and emptying the chip pan down the sink isn’t a good idea.

Going to Spain to improve her Spanish ?? . She should work at improving her English first

She felt horrible at leaving fellow standby passengers on over booked flight behind. Yada yada airline fcuked up. Yada yada. Still fcuked off "i'm all right Jack" , cheerio.
Has eczema and stuff, now flaring up.
And a blog snap chat vlog. Of course.
    What a jeremiad.

Fcuk me, with all the ****e in the world this crap is the second feature article on a national paper. Who writes this crap, and who gives one.

    Im too old maybe.

Without selecting the link, I thought maybe it would be somewhat of story but Jesus no, you are right !!!

    who writes this rubbish.

Twiiter/Facebook/Instagram story I'd imagine being shared and some rubbish so called journalist thinks it's news worthy

Whoever is that person's manager or Irish examiner publisher (whoever decides what goes out ) should have a serious work performance review:)

I'd Lose all respect for a media outlet if that's the rubbish being produced

Not really... City life would get rather intolerable if our sewer systems failed because of these lumps of fat.

A young girl having a minor travel related difficulty is not news.

Denzel nails it. Very bright guy, gives good interview. Makes a nice change from "celebs" always selling their product, too stupid, or too afraid to be honest, usually the former.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Thanks C you prick. Just did a sinus flush with tea all over my keyboard. :D

To be fair she's only a kid of 16. Kids of 16 tend to be gauche and embarrassing to anyone who isn't 16 or their mum and dad. Wide exposure of kids at their most cringe when they're still learning the world is in itself is a major issue I have with media and social media. Thank christ I grew up without it because if you had put a camera on me at her age I'd have generated a cringe meme on a weekly, if not daily basis and it would still be there to haunt me years later. Kids have always been under pressure to some degree, but used to be more from peers, not from adults looking on and tutting, or worse exploiting them for people to tut.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Not so long ago, the Irish Times was known as the paper of record.

They now deem this news apparently.

Ah the disability rights activist. I think with the coffee shop their card reader was attached to the counter top and she couldn't reach it. Here's an idea...hand them the card and ask them to tap it. I'm not denigrating disability rights but there's other more serious areas around disability rights to get yourself worked up over. I have a disability too (multiple sclerosis) and I don't need the likes of her lobbying on my behalf!

    Wtaf.

"I didn't even get to say goodbye to my child with the panic to get her to the gate." You'd swear she was emigrating indefinitely, not going on a 2 week exchange to Spain ffs.

"It was such a weird emotion...What if he had chosen the boy over me and I was in that situation? I don't ever want to be in that situation again." Sounds like he was chosen to be executed!! Whatever about travelling by yourself and having your exchange partner with you, I would probably think it better to let the Spanish boy on the plane since he's the one not on his own soil.
