Motor tax site has car dealer as owner

Just tried taxing a new car I bought on motortax.ie and the owner listed is the car dealership I bought it from. I can only edit the address on the site.
So I can't go through with the taxation process until this is sorted.
Is it the car dealers place to transfer the ownership to me?
It's the first time I've bought a new car so I don't know how this works.
Btw I also I don't have the registration cert.

Owner will send this to the tax office and register you as new owner. You don’t do it

Logbook will be issues to you in the post in your name.

Car dealer does it online, you should have your new cert in a couple of days (after the weekend). Once you have it you can then tax your car with your details on motortax.ie.

In fact keep an eye on motortax.ie, https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/changeOwnership.do and once it shows it changed over to you, you can then use the online facility to tax it.

    New car or used car?

Car is likely a pre-reg or demo. Stick the reg into the cartell.ie free check. If the car comes up then it’s been taxed already and you’ll be the second owner.

If the motortax.ie PIN number is the last 6 digits of the cars chassis number, then it’s first time taxing, if it’s another number then it’s tax renewal.

Yeah it came up on that site.

Yes that PIN number was the last 6 digits of the chassis number.

That doesn’t add up, it should be one or the other. It normally wouldn’t show up on cartell unless it’s been taxed.

PM me the reg if you don’t mind

Isn't the pin number the last six digit for first taxing of each new ownership so it being a pre reg would make sense.

Yeah, but they need to tax it in their name for it to be a prereg.
