Hy Guys. I hope you all well. The check engine light came on in my 2006 Almera. I got a new lambda sensor and the light were gone until now. It is came back again. P0171 CODE. I also noticed a rattling noise from the bottom of the engine around 1500 and 2300-2400 rpm. The mechanic who changed the sensor said it might be the catalytic converter. Any idea ? Thank you
    Adam

    How long was everything ok?
That code could point to a ruptured hose, like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oz_xYji5d-8

I bought the car 2 weeks ago. First i thought it is the wind from oustide that's why i didn't pay too much attention to it. so i don't know how long time ago this happening. The mechanic replaced the lambda sensor but it fixed for 2 days the check engine light. He said it might be the catalytic converter. He also said that the car burns oil (i didn't fill it up completely with oil as my father told me not to do). I'll take the car back to the mechanic and he'll look for other solution. I was told there is no leak in the system.

These cars drink fuel, the clutch are terribly bad, gearbox can just fail, is he sure it's not the chain?

Well i guess i know now what cause the problem. I spoke with an other mechanic and i told him the symptoms. I turned on the engine today, and i noticed blue smelly smoke from the exhaust. After a while it is disappeared. He said that my catalytic converter is dead, because oil is leaking to the combustion chamber. He said some seal need to be replaced and probably it is gonna cost a lot of money...

Waste of time and money getting any of the above sorted.

If there's a good bit of test left on it just drive it on and then when the time comes get something else. I'd not be surprised if the timing chain is stretched too.

The mechanic told meg that the cat gonna cost 90-120 as it is used. Anyway i will keep this in mind. I hope there is nothing really serious problem with the vehicle. This is my first car, i got my full licence 3 weeks ago and now this...

Please in future for your own sake get a trusted mechanic to give any potential purchase the once over.

If you can look for something more reliable and don't bother sinking money into it.
