Traveling abroad

I am on Disability Allowance. A family member gave me a gift of an all expenses paid holiday in southern Europe, for a week last year.

I have since read that I should have notified the Department of Social Protection before traveling abroad. Should I contact them now about traveling abroad?

Can they check my passport travel records for evidence of travel abroad?

Why or how would they check your “passport records”? Please don’t worry about a week abroad.

Whenever someone leaves the country their passport is scanned into a computer database.

Yes but why would DA section randomly be attempting to access that database?
Also, not everyone who leaves the country has a passport. You can travel on the ferry or Aer Lingus with a drivers license. If you want to notify DA that you had a weeks holiday outside the country last year then just write and tell them, attach a copy of your itinerary and your boarding passes.

From experience; if you are on benefits and are out of the country for more than 2 weeks there will be problems. A week is fine. No need to notify.

Enjoy what sounds a lovely gift!

Don't worry about this at all, there will never be any check up regarding this holiday

    Hahaha.. No.

If it was for a month maybe, as it might affect your payment.

A week makes absolutely no odds. You can come and go as you please.

What problems would possibly come of you leaving the country for 1 mere week anyway?

How would they know even you were away for a month if your payment was paid into the bank

I’ve been away twice last year while not working, I wasn’t aware i needed to notify anyone, but there was no sort of problem.

Details re going abroad while on welfare payments are set out above. Problems arise if people become detained abroad due to illness, injury, flights/airports going into meltdowns due to drones, ash from volcanoes or whatever and the Dept of Soc Protection has not been informed of planned holidays/travel abroad.
