Fis/working family payment

Just a question for people who get this weekly payment. I understand how it works regarding hours you work & how your income has to be below a certain amount. We have been getting this payment for a few years now which I’m very grateful for as we’re just about keeping our heads above water! But the amount we receive has gone down every year. Why would this be as our combined income wouldn’t have changed that much? I could have phoned them to look into it but didn’t...

    That's strange, it's gone up.

You get sixty percent of the difference between your combined wages and the figures for the amount of kids you have.

No the weekly payment we get Fis has gone down every year, for example in 2016 we were getting 150 weekly, presently we’re getting 100 weekly. Big drop over the years. It is up for renewal soon, fingers crossed we will be approved again.

Your income must have increased over the years.
The amount of WFP entitlement has increased with almost every budget.
Check your last few P60s for taxable income.

Have any of your children turned 18?

Or turned 16 and left school? If they are over 18 and in college they are still counted.

Nope all my 3 are under 18. My husbands income would have increased the last few years. He is self employed & he has got busier with work. My husband is concerned that eventually they will stop our Fis payments?

Yeah as your household income increases your WFP decreases. If your household income reaches the cut off point then your WFP will stop, because you won’t need it any more.

Sorry to hijack this, but me and my wife applied for fis and got refused, I'm self employed and my wife does 1 day a week and we are barely covering the mortgage (have provided accounts showing losses). The citizens advice can't understand and we appealed. My question is can you give me any hints/help of what to do next.

I think your wife needs to be working a minimum of 38 hours per fortnight. I understand how your feeling, we are just keeping our heads above water & it’s tough going at times...

Of course they will eventually stop your payments. As your income goes up your WFP will go down, until your income is high enough to no longer be eligible for any payment.

The citizens advice should have explained to you that you don't qualify for WFP so you couldn't possibly get it. It is only for employees, and you must work 19 hours a week.
