Plumbers opinions on countertop basins instead of sinks.

    Hi there,
We're having a debate at home, getting the bathroom re-done.
Agree on most things but we're debating about the vanity unit sink.

Looking at the idea of one of those countertop basins as opposed to the usual sink sunk into the top of the vanity unit.

On the plus side you get space to put stuff down while using the sink .. shaving cream.. or makeup or whatever...
I'm really sick of takin off me glasses to wash my face and they end up in the water ...

One thing I notice is that a lot of these basins don't actually have an overflow...
(some do, but it limits the options ...)

So would be interested to hear any experienced opinions..
Is the lack of overflow a fatal flaw?
Would it matter as much for a groundfloor bathroom?

Are Basins very awkward day to day?

I've only ever used one in a hotel and it was fine for me... does it get complicated with kids in the picture?

    Thanks
