Servicing during warranty period

Have to get car serviced - first annual service. Windsor motors have said end of May before they could take it in.

    Car was bought from Windsor.

Are we obliged to have it serviced by Windsor motors? I vaguely remember something about such a condition being ruled anti-competitive?

Can I take the car wherever as long as I get it stamped? Should the garage by SIMI registered?

It doesn't have to be done with Windsor or with a main dealer at all. It can be done at any workshop once you get a detailed itemised receipt and they are a VAT registered garage.

It'd be nice to use a main dealer for it's first service, even if not Windsor, just to get the benefit of any possible service actions, software updates etc on a fairly new car IMO.

It doesn't have to be Windsor, but I would recommend bringing it to another garage of the same marque. Technically once you can prove that all parts, fluids and procedures meet OE specifications then they have to honour the warranty, but that's going to be a lot more difficult with a 3rd party or independent garage where as it would be a given if you use an officially designated service centre.

    Cheers

So in the context of Windsor motors - who would those be exactly?

Actually now that I think about I need to get the stop/start looked at under warranty so maybe I need to take it into Windsor anyway

What OSI means is depending on the brand of car you have, say it's a Nissan, you should take at least to another Nissan dealer, not necessarily Windsor if they are too busy.

I think Windsor have the monopoly on Nissan, if that is what you have, with Dundrum, Deansgrange, Bray and Liffey Valley, the only alternative option is Hutton and Meade i think?

Keeping it main dealer serviced while under warranty is a good idea as you stand a better chance of goodwill if you have an issue when the warranty expires.

I had a new timing chain on a Passat 2 years out of warranty and while it was a known issue, I am certain the full VWSH helped.
