05 SLK200K air flow meter

    Hello,

I have a 2005 SLK200K (R171) with engine fault light on due to an issue with it's air flow meter.

It has very low impact on fuel consumption, which i don't much care since I just drive it on weekends. My annual mileage is less than 3000 km.

But I wan't to fix it if I can find a reasonable priced service/mechanic.

I've talked to MSL and their quote was very high if I compare to the value of a 14 years old car.

I've also checked the price of R171 air flow meter on eBay and prices were reasonable, however I cannot fit it to car by myself.

Does anyone know a reliable and fair priced Mercedes-Benz service/mechanic which can provide and fit the airflow meter? Alternatively I can provide it online but still need a mechanic to fit it.

    All the best!

Hi, can you tell us how you know the fault relates to the airflow meter ? I am assuming you have had the codes read but the actual fault code would be helpful as there are various related issues that occur on these cars.

Hi MercMad, thank you for your reply.

I've put car for diagnosis with 2 different services (MSL and a special service) and they both said it is because air flow meter. Unfortunately I don't have the actual fault code.

You have to be careful with ebay AFMs as quality can be very hit and miss. I would go for the genuine or OEM quality item like Bosch/Hella/Pierburg.

In general the fitting is one electrical connector and two jubilee clips. It takes about 5-10 minutes really depending on if you have to remove some components to have access. Normally you have plenty of access and it's about as easy job as can be.

Thank you Samih for your reply. I would also go with OEM item, thank you for the advice.

I am sure it is an easy, 5-10 mins work if you know what you are doing. I personally do not have experience on those stuff and willing to pay to a mechanic for their effort instead of taking any risks :)
