1litre vs 1.4 litre engine

    Hi.

I'm not really up on cars so would like some help on this.
Tried the Kia Stonic recently and liked it. I was trying the K3 version which is a 1.4 litre petrol (100bhp).
The highest model is the K4 which is a 1 litre (120bhp) and the reviews say is the best of the engines.

Seeing as it's only 1 litre, will it struggle a bit on the longer journeys (not that i take a lot of them, but the odd time I do) ??
Would the 1 litre engine begin to struggle a bit after 5 or 6 years?
Sorry for the newbie type questions!

The 1.0 is turbo and the 1.4 isn’t. The turbocharged engine is more complicated than the 1.4 and is inherently riskier. That said the Kia warranty is good and the 1.0 will be much nicer to drive and actually sounds better despite having one less cylinder than the 1.4.
There’s nothing to worry about in long journeys, the turbo will give it more torque than the 1.4 so less down changing in long inclines etc.

Will it struggle a bit more than the 1.4 when the car is full of people?

No. Quite the opposite. The 1.4 will struggle more.

Not necessarily, those turbocharged 1 litre cars have zero power until the turbo spools, they also never make the quoted mpg due to having to drive them so hard.

The modern petrols have very little lag now. Certainly on the open road the 1.0 would have more of a chance than the 1.4.

For example the Ceed 1.0 has 171nm of torque from 1500rpm all the way to 4000 rpm whereas the 1.4 has peak torque of 137nm at 4000rpm. At 1500rpm it only has 80nm of torque. Even at 1000 rpm (barely above tickover) the 1.0 will have 110nm of torque.
