D-learner permit expired, renew or not?

    Hi..,
    I had a D licence learner permit that expired in September 2017, I never actually took any lessons as it turned out.
    Anyway can I renew this learner permit now, or do I have to start the process all over again from the beginning?
    I already have B, C and D1.

    You can renew a learner permit upto 5 years from its expiry date. If you plan on going for the category D test then it is worth your while renewing it.

    Thanks, I had looked it up on NDLS website and it seemed to suggest an application to renew had to be made before expiry, it’s not clear on the NDLS website IMO.

    You can apply to renew upto 3 months before the expiry date. Perhaps this is what you seen? I’ve never been on their website if I’m to be truthful.

    Yes this is what the NDLS website says, it doesn’t mention that a learner permit can be renewed up to 5 years after expiry, yet citizens information does..
    Question is, mine expired 18 months ago, can I renew it now?

    Full licence can be left to under 10 years and renew where as a learning permit is half that time.

    If either are over you must redo theory and any other things needed from scratch.

    I lost my last B learner permit in April 2017; it was in my wallet that was stolen when I was on a bus. It subsequently expired in October 2017.

    I applied for a renewal only in January this year, and there was no problem doing that. In my case, I also needed to complete the Garda declaration section of the form since I didn't have my most recent permit.
