New hatch vs new enough saloon

My trusty 2005 Clio might be coming to the end of its days and I'm looking at a big step up/change.

My driving is fairly simple - total 10km a day to and from work and occasional other city driving. A good chance that if I make a big change the wife might take it for her 60km round trip to work a few times a week and leave me with the kiddie wagon.

To my uneducated eye, the BMW 330e looks a good shout, maybe a 2 or 3 year old MSport from the UK (if I can find one in budget with the pro sat nav). For the same money though I could get the new Focus Titanium (7 year warranty and low enough PCP) with loads of options. Octavia Style is an alternative too with 0% PCP but only 3 years warranty.

The BMW will of course have extra cost with the yearly warranty price.

I'm guessing the saloon will be more enjoyable and if I'm honest, I fancy something to waft around in. That said, it's a much easier prospect to walk into a dealer and put money down on a PCP contract.

Before anyone says it, I'm not going to cycle to work. I did think about the i3 Rex but those back doors would wreck my head with kids. Leaf was an idea but not sure if I could go 100% BEV yet.

Personally, I'd always go for something like a 2 to 3 year old 330e msport over a focus. Wouldn't even be a consideration for me. Much nicer. Myself and the missus got 2014 BMW 530D and Audi A6 within the last year both in the region of 20k each. Couldn't fathom spending 20k on what kind of car I'd end up in buying new. Very happy with our choices, but it's personal opinion. Weigh up the much nicer car v the comfort of a warranty and that's only something you can decide.

Really electric would suit you perfect.

i3 is only one electric car. eGolf could be option. Merc have an electric. eNiro is out now but price is big! I guess you have a house with driveway to install a home charger?

If not willing to move to full electric you could look at PHEV. Outlander PHEV, Kia Niro PHEV, Merc E300 something are some of the options. Also a Golf PHEV and a Audi A3.

The 330e you mentioned as well.

For me the charging network is not there yet for BEV. Granted I do have a driveway and I could install a charger.

I have a BEV for over 2 year, eGolf, I have used the network 3 times I think in those 2 years.

From you post you have a second car, we are the same so if we need to go outside the range then I bring it.

Average we are saving over 1500 per year on fuel alone. Service costs etc are down. Insurance/tax etc.

Not to say with the e330 and such a short commute you potentially could see the same savings but the battery in the e330 is tiny.
