Another Phone Scam.

Last year I had a phone call from a man claiming to be a police inspector. It was a credit card scam - posters on AH were able to tell me the nature of the scam. It was new to me at the time. But I was careful so no harm done.
Today I had another phone call - a man claiming to be from the police somewhere in London. The caller said that there was a suspect they were seeking residing at my address. To which I replied, "Really?" and he hung up.
Apart from the illogicality of the police phoning the number of a house where a wanted person might be, what I didn't understand was what kind of scam it was.
AH has some savvy posters who may have heard of this before and may be able to suggest an explanation.

He said there was a suspect living at your address. You said "really?" and he hung up? Prank more than scam by the sound of it.

This was an easy one to see through from the start. The scams are becoming more elaborate. I couldn't find anything online relating to the call I had today, so you may be correct.

You were the suspect. He had all the information he needed. I see a black van in your future.

    I always get scam calls.

I just say 'You're through to the police station in Waterford' and they hang up straight away!

They are just checking you're home before they SWAT you

The new scam doing the rounds is class. " Hi sir, you're being deported. Western Union us a few hundred quid and you can stay. They got quite frustrated when I asked for an aisle seat and if they knew what movie might be shown?

He jumped on a flight, he'll be with you in the morning... it was an O'Reilly they were looking for.

He hung up in the hope6 you'd ring him back, if you did youd be charged a mad amount.

    Nothing new about this scam

Looking for information / ID / pps number etc

Probably thought you'd fall for it and protest that it wasn't you - where then you'd be asked to provide proof of personal identity etc

Something similar to this from the US

Here's one I got earlier today from a Vodafone number.

Might be a number being used unbeknownst to whomever owns it, so have blocked it out.

I agree. This one's seems like came from someone who might know you. However, similar scams purported to be officer has been around for years, though.

    No number unsurprisingly.

Could be. There has to be an angle.

I doubt it was a prank. I had a similar call about a year ago. That one was better rehearsed and initially caught me off guard.
My previous thread was "Conversation with a criminal", and posters thought that I was overreacting. But that's precisely what these phone calls are.
