You could have a disqualification period of up to nine weeks depending on your reasons for leaving, but you should still apply straight away.

Thanks very much for your quick reply, I thought there was a waiting period alright when you leave yourself. Do you mean I should apply now even though I finish in 2 weeks?

Remember that the disqualification period is not the same as a waiting period. If a person leaves a job there may be a disqualification period of 9 weeks applied before Jobseeker's will be granted..This 9 week period will not be back dated, so no payment will be received for this period.

Bear in mind that you're entitled to a Jobseekers payment (JB or JA) only if you're available for work, fit for work and actively seeking work.

Seeing as you handed in your notice without having a new job to go to, you'll almost certainly have to explain to SW why you jumped from the aeroplane without wearing a parachute!

If you can't satisfy them that you had a good reason for resigning, then the period of up to 9 weeks disqualification will probably be applied.
