Probate Inheritance query

    Hi all,
Just looking for some advice on claiming Inheritance. Many thanks in advance. A friend of mine's brother passed away recently (1yr) of natural causes.
He asked me for advice which I cant give because I have no knowledge of life insurance etc, so Il post it here.
-A solicitor was hired to take of the paperwork etc
-The claim has went to probate and took approx 4 months to get passed.
-A letter from the tax form has been received stating tax is due on the Inheritance
    - My friend went back to the solicitor for an update and they said the insurance company is now looking for hospital documents for the deceased

Is this normal practice after the case already going through probate ?
Does this process take long ?

    Thanks in advance

Life Assurance (ie claim settlement) has nothing to do with probate.

Probate may effect where the monies end up but the life assurance may be able to reject a claim based on cause of death so needs access to medical information on that basis.

    Thanks for the information
I should have mentioned the solicitor told my friend he will be in receipt of 50k (approx) and wrote him a letter stating so.
Is it common practice for the insurance company to be seeking documents at this stage ?

    Thanks again

At some time after the death and before the payment life assurance will seek cause of death and hospital information.

That's all we know of the stage of the insurance claim so yes it would be common.

Sorry for the delay and thanks very much for the reply. I know each case is different but would you have a rough time frame of payout after the seek/ approve the medical files
    Thanks again

Suggest you discuss with solicitor acting for the personal representative
