I applied for invalidity in November. Got turned down a few weeks ago and have lodged a review and an appeal. Unfortunately I only just realized that I don’t have enough contributions in 2017 and I need to go on 2018 where I have a full year on illness benefit. (I have the necessary overall amount) So I should have waited to apply until January. If I get through on medical grounds is there any hope of them just adjusting the application date for me or will I need to reapply again? My illness benefit is due to run out the end of May.

when i applied last year i was turned down because i had no contributions in 2015 and 2016. I was told i needed contributions in every year for the last 5 to be approved

which i found weird as i def had enough contributions having worked for 8 years, and i had a whole year of contributions which should have satisfied the 40 or so in 2017 from disability

Are you sure that’s why you were turned down? The rules are 260+ in total and 48 in either the last or second last year before your claim.

How long does it take usually? I applied 11 weeks ago, I rang up a month later to be told they hadn't received my application and then that night I received a text saying received and being examined (must have been sitting on someone's desk). 7 weeks later still no word back and when I rang last Friday I was told it's with the medical accessor and could take up to another 6 weeks.

I applied the end of November and it took until the middle of March to get the response.
