    Hi lads. What’s the going rate for grazing 300kg dairy heifers for the summer months?

    60cent per animal per day for 1st may to 1st November but owner pays for meal and vetinary costs I think. Teagasc have an online chart with all the costings

    So grazing 70 heifers would get you around 7and half thousand......not great either.

    Sorry my mistake, it's 60 cent/animal for the first summer as calves

    Approximate contract rearing rates:
    Calf rearing: €2.00/day;
    First grazing season: €0.80/day;
    First winter: €1.80/day;
    Second grazing season: €1.05/day;
    Second winter: €2.10/day.

    So €1.05/day.

    €190 x 70 = €13,300
    30 acres?

    What’s the story with silage then in contract rearing

    That's in the winterage fee. As in above €140/day x 120 days. I'm just working off Teagasc figures.

    Lads, what would the going rate be for grazing per day, for Suckler cows and their 6 or 7 month old calves be? A neighbour gave me some after-grass grazing and when I asked him what I owed him, he said 'Whatever you think'. Cheers……….

    What ever it would cost you in silage x half.

    IF your fair with him he might offer it again, just throwing out 3 euro a day per pair.

    Do you have a link to the online Teagasc chart.

    Sounds a bit strong you would keep them on silage for that. I.5-2/day, say you had 10 cows with calves at 1.5/day its 105/week.

    They way I would value it is land around here without maps is making around €200 an acre for 11 months, so around €4 an acre a week and then go from there.
