I bought a BMW F10, M-Sport, back in January and the tax is now due for renewal.
Went online yesterday to do same and I am told by the system that the
the tax class of this vehicle has changed since your reminder notice was issued

As a result it informs me I have to call into my local motor tax office and complete an RF100A form.

What's that all about, can someone tell me?

Was it previously a psv/taxi vehicle?
On the current tax disc does it say Private or something else?
If you put the reg in to motortax.ie for tax rate what does it come back with?

Just in with Q4U in Swords, turns out the previous tax disc was marked as "exempt", seems the car was in such a category and, upon it's transfer to me, should have been retaxed immediately and I'm on the hook for three months arrears.
    Bugger

Previous owner could have been disabled or the car was used on an island. The reason you got stung for arrears is because when you became the new registered owner the tax became void.

    That sounds right.
A lot of people with psv discs in their windscreens as well. AGS don't look kindly on these things:)

    Thats interesting !
My partners car is tax exempt for a diabled passenger!
When i go to sell it should the new buyer be informed he will have to tax it immediately even if there is a tax disc on the window with a few months tax(exemption)remaining?

The motor tax exemption is granted through the registered owner and becomes null and void as soon as ownership changes. It's the same with PSV motor tax.

Could have been an ex-embassy car.

Could have been an ex-embassy car.

Could never understand how embassy and state vehicles had to have tax disks when they were easily recognisable to add such.

It's used to identify the cars so clampers can leave them be if illegally badly parked, I see it every day, first thing clampers do is check the tax disc.

Island cars aren't exempt, probably an embassy car ok.
OP does your partner, wife, husband child not want to buy the car off you ;)

Gardai emblazoned on the paintwork or CD plates is enough....I know... unmarked vehicles:)

post #3 simply tells us that the vehicle is/was 'exempt'.

Diplomatic Vehicles are included in the list of Tax exempt vehicles. Therefore it could have been, and given the Model of car it was probably either a State-owned or Diplomatic Car .

@CiDeRmAn. You're either paying 3 months arrears or adding at least one more Owner to the VLC. I suppose it's down to how much 3 months arrears is going to cost you.
