Do you delve into coppers?

As I opened up the coin box in the car looking for parting meter money I realised half the contents was coppers. Fishing out the 20c pieces I was looking for (the parking meter doesn't even accept anything less than 10c and for good reason it would need emptying of annoying tiny change every other day) I paused to reflect that I probably hadn't bought anything with a copper coin since I was a child. Why do they even exist? Wasn't there a plan to ditch 1 and 2 cents? Why do we still have these stupid objects?

Do you just pile them up in jars or are you that person, paying for items in coins at a busy checkout?

Thought this was going to be some sordid tale of nurses, Gardaí & farmers. Am disappointed :(

+1 also extremely disappointed. Peharps it's a story of finding coppers in the middle of coppers with some coppers

I hardly get any coppers in change since rounding came in. If I do, I tell the shop to keep them or throw them in a charity tin if there's one on the counter.

I once found a bag full of coppers in coppers. Handed them into the coppers.

Tesco self scan. Your only man for coppers.

The coppers that own Coppers, or different coppers?

The odd time when buying a pack of fags.

Kind of feel like a big gypo at the till.

Land then into one of them change machines.

Anyone using them at a till holding up a queue should be publicly whipped.

Is there a maximum amount of coins they accept in one go? Can you combine payment with card payment?

Small change goes into one of those machines.

My €2 tin gets counted out and put into bags though. I'm not giving 10% of that away.

I don't know whether you can combine it with card payment or not. How much they accept is apparently due to how full the machine already is, or so one of the staff members in Tesco told me anyway.
Unfortunately they're quite keen to give back coppers in change too.

Spend them at the first opportunity - I don't let them build up.
If I get coins in change then I'll probably recycle them the next time I am buying something.
I am not the type to hand over notes for everything when I have the required amount in coins.
Because if you do, you end up with more coins.
And no, I don't hold up the queue. It's just as easy to get your money ready while waiting in the queue.

Not sure about maximum amount but you can pay with a combo of cash and card.

I get rid of them at self check outs in supermarkets. Money's money... :p

Give them to the kids for their piggy bank. But tap for nearly everything these days so don't accumulate it very much.

Had a box filled with them in the kitchen. Counted it last week and it was just shy of €160...I'll keep throwing into it til I go on holidays...Hopefully an extra couple of hundred quid spending money.

I see the boom is back, how common playing for something with some change...Here break this fifty.

    Cop on

Well that copper fastens that argument

Anytime I'm in Ballyvaughan I throw them out the window of the car as I pass and pull up a few metres down the road.
Its with great glee I watch the ensuing scrimmage for what they innocently call their "buy buy shop shinys"

Irish rail only accept 50 coins in their machines

If you put in 51 they return ALL of them and cancel the transaction

    I learned from experience

I go to Portugal every summer with bags of coppers and live like a king.

They're mad for it over there.
