Participating in the C.E Scheme while with Turas Nua

So I have been with Turas Nua for around a month now. My chances of employment are slim (I rely heavily on public transport, and there are very few jobs in my local town of what I am looking for). I also don't have a lot of experience, so I had considered applying for a C.E scheme, as it would suit my needs, and there seems to be plenty of vacancies in my local town for what I am interested in through the scheme. I brought it up with my personal adviser - that I was interested in doing it, and he said that he would send off an email about it, and that I would meet a C.E case officer. That was three weeks ago now, and I haven't heard anything about it since. Would this be normal? Or should I inquire about it, get an update? I am not sure what to do. Should it take this long to get set up to C.E scheme? I ask because I would really be interested in doing it. I know that the personal advisers are there to get people full-time employment, and that they may be apprehensive about people doing these schemes when you are with them.

    Thanks for your help.

Hi go to your local social welfare office and they will give u a list of vacancies in CE scheme in your area. You could also go and do TUS scheme for a year

    Thanks for your reply.

I went there first but they informed me that it had to go through Turas Nua since I am with them.

Oh right. You’d think your supervisor in TN would be quicker bcos you’d be going to get experience. I was a receptionist with TUS scheme in a local community centre finished up in November I got great experience out of it

That is what I was thinking. Yes, I was on a TUS placement too, I really loved it.

I think you should contact the CE Scheme yourself and explain your situation to them. They will tell you what you should do.

That is good advice. I will do that. I feel, now, that they may be sweeping my request under the carpet.

When I was with Turas Nua I rang the local officer in charge on ce schemes to try and get one in a local school but he told me that I am assigned to Turas for the year and could not do ce whilst with them

I wonder when were you with Turas Nua? Things have changed recently. People can now do both CE and Turas Nua/Seetec.

Turas Nua are dedicated to understanding individuals’ needs and engaging with them throughout their journey from social exclusion to social inclusion

This is what it says on their site..

I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it is a month now, and I have not heard anything back, not a word. Very unhappy..

If Turas Nua/Seetec lets you go for TUS or CE, they loose control of you as payments won`t depend on Turas Nua/Seetec anymore. They simply do not want to cut the branch they sitting on, methink...

Just an update, two months and not a peep from them. I feel they really do not seem to understand individuals’ needs. Very disappointed. All they seem to be doing for me is putting me on these waste of time in-house courses, and appointments for sitting in front of a computer for an hour job-searching every week. I felt the C.E scheme would have been of great benefit to me, but they seem against it, for whatever reason.

Because they lose control over sanctioning your payments

Bad form. What should I do? I can't seem myself finding employment any time soon, I live outside a small town, and I rely heavily on public transport.

You can go to a case officer and apply for a ce position through them, especially if you find one that suits you. Then just let turas nua know you've applied.
