IIRC rule of thumb is that ladder should be out from base by 1/4 of vertical height.

So if gutters are say 20 feet up, so base is 5 feet so slope is SQRT of ((20 by 20 ) + (5 by 5)) so minimum 21 feet

you should also have a stand off to keep it off gutters
