Retrofit USB port into mk6 Golf

Hi, I'm into tech but not great with car electrics etc.

I have a Mk6 golf with an rcd310 installed. I bought a USB port "button" for in front of the gear stick but I've now realised my radio doesn't have the correct port on the back to plug into.

My question is what would be the easiest way of getting this USB button working?

When I got a dashcam wired in the guy "installed" for want of a better word an additional cigarette lighter port in the fuse box. In this I have a twin USB charger and it powers my dashcam and Bluetooth audio receiver. Would I be pushing it to swap it out for a triple USB port charger? Then I could buy the right cable with USB on one end. Or would anyone have a better solution.

Also if it do go with the triple USB port charger would it end up charging the phone slowly due to it being split into 3?

Can you not just use the cigarette lighter socket if it’s just for charging?

I think having the cigarette lighter and Ash tray compartment closed would look neater. I know there's not much difference!

Then jsut buy one of these and wire it up to the original socket

put it in the arm rest and run the wires under the handbrake, gear shift trims.
Don't wire it back to the battery without fusing it down correctly.

Any pics of your ciggy lighter in the fuse box?
sounds like a cowboy job .

Yep, that’s the type of charger I was suggesting, and it’s a very easy swap out.

I’d also agree the fuse box charger sounds kinda dodgy!

I'd be looking to charge my phone that I have mounted to the vent so having a cable trailing back to the armrest wouldn't be ideal either for me. I know the easiest thing to do is to continue using the cigarette lighter. I just think things would look neater if the ash tray compartment was closed and if I could get the usb button working instead. If there's no easy way of doing it without cutting wires I'll leave it. Thanks guys
