P50 Tax Back

    Hi all,

I lost my job in Mid February and applied for a tax refund using the P50 form,

I have done this before and received about €2500, I received my refund today of about €950, shouldn't the refund have been larger as I should be entitled to the remaining 10 months tax credits (€3300/12*10)?

I paid year to date about €1800 between PAYE and USC

    Thanks

You may be earning again / in receipt of S/Welfare etc. in the remaining 10 months of the year so Revenue only allocate tax credits up to the time each claim is submitted dependent on the income to that point. You can submit further P50 claims as time progresses.

Thanks for the reply! I am leaving the country to go back to University in September, so I won't be going back to work, or claiming social welfare. When would be the best times to submit further applications?

While you are still here generally every 4 weeks or until such time as all tax paid has been refunded. If you leave and are still owed tax then you need to give Revenue -

    the date you left,
your address in country you are going to,
a statement to the effect that you are either leaving permanently or that you will not be resident in Ireland for the following tax year.
